Fri 4-Dec-2009 21:10 GMT: A processing error required an emergency and unscheduled reboot of the primary storage array in the LN3 site. This led to a failure of all web hosting services. It also meant that approximately 50% of users were not able to retrieve email. The outage lasted approximately 15 minutes. The backup storage array was available to take over from the primary array, however the time required to ensure data consistency of the backup array was similar to the time to reboot the primary array, and hence we waited for the primary array to reboot which takes about 10 minutes to check its disks for errors. All services are now operating normally. We apologise for the lack of service during this period. |
